Lady jumps into Teesta river

GANGTOK, July 2: Singtam residents were left stunned when a 22-years-old lady jumped to her death from the old bridge at Adarsh Goan near the bazaar into the Teesta river yeserday afternoon.
According to eye witnesses, Sangita Tamang was seen jumping into river at around 3:30 pm. She was said to have been with her husband Ruplal Rai at the time of the incident. The body is yet to recovered and all police stations on the Teesta river stretch in both Sikkim and North Bengal side have been alerted about the incident.
Rai, also tried to jump from the bridge in an apparent wild bid to save his wife but was stopped by the local people.
The couple had come to attend Singtam haat from Namphing, South Sikkim.
