Sikkim fan club for Pradeep Gurung

GANGTOK,April 9: A fan club of Dance India Dance (DID) season III finalist Pradeep Gurung was formed today here at Gangtok. The fan club has appealed people of Sikkim, Darjeeling and Northeast to register their vote for Pradeep with two missed calls in toll free number of 18002661611 on Saturday and Sunday evening.            

The DID, a reality show contest on dancing, is telecasted by Zee Tv at 8.30 pm every Saturday and Sunday.            

 Pradeep needs our support from the fans, friends and well wishers, said the fan club. The club would be campaigning for Pradeep throughout Sikkim and Darjeeling hills, a press release informs.   

          

Pradeep is from Guwahati and the only contestant in DID from the Northeastern region.             

Fan club chief coordinator Kiran Rasaily said: “For the first time in history of the Indian television reality show voting has been made absolutely free and dialing 1800 266 16 11 for the missed calls in his support. You are not charged anything and you receive a message confirming your vote for Pradeep. As such I appeal all sections of society in Sikkim and Darjeeling to come forward to vote Pradeep and make him victorious”.

Fire tackled at Lall Bazaar

GANGTOK, March 15: A major fire outbreak was averted timely by Gangtok fire personnel and police today here at Lall Bazaar. The fire had broken out a rented godown of Nanda Kishore Prasad near the supermarket complex at around 12.45 pm.

Before it could spread out, the fire was extinguished with the help of two fire tenders. The fire may have triggered by a short circuit, said Gangtok deputy chief fire officer Prakash Rai to reporters. The godown was under repair.

Gangtok, 25 February: Twenty-five contestants from in and around Gangtok participated in the much- publicized Miss Sikkim 2012 contest at Ranipool this evening.

      These small town girls brought to the stage their own ‘oomph’ factor. Nervous catwalks, apprehensive introductory speeches and jittery rampwalks aside, the young girls put up quite a show. As one of the contestants said, her favourite quote is “Rise and Shine, and if you can’t shine, atleast rise.”

       The casual round saw the girls decked in rather ill-fitting fashion wear and accessories; and blaring loud makeup. Looking rather fragile, tip-toeing in their high heels and desperately trying to get the catwalk right, a member in the audience remarked, “Are the girls walking the ramp, or are they astronauts walking on moon!” A little more grooming couldn’t have hurt. However, the girls made a comeback in the evening wear round, dazzling in fresh evening dresses. It may be safe to say that one is more likely to see fashionable women in the streets of Gangtok, than onstage.

      Musician Francis Lepcha from Kolkata regaled the guests with his peppy songs. The evening hosts Adarsh Rai and Sonam Palmo Bhutia kept the audiences charged with their lively banter.

      Filmmaker Prashant Rasaily, Cartoonist and lecturer Pankaj Thapa, Managing Director of Nayuma Television Roshan Rai were some of the panel juries.

The Miss Sikkim winner will take home a cash prize of R.S. 25,000/- The first runner up will bag R.s. 15,000/- and the second runner up wins R.s. 10,000/-

86th birth Anniversary of Sri Satya Sai Baba

GANGTOK, NOVEMBER 23: The Sai Temple of Balwakhani reverberated with slogans of Jai Sai Ram on the occasion of the 86th birth Anniversary of Sri Satya Sai Baba today.

          The celebrations were held amidst great pomp and gaiety with number of activities under the banner of Sikkim Sri Sathya Sai Organization.

          As expected, hundreds of devotees thronged at the temple to witness their spiritual leader’s birthday.

          A rally was taken out morning from Deorali to Balwakhani participated by the devotees.

Positive journalism grants to 5 reporters

Gooroong urges IPR dept to inspect old files containing media demands

GANGTOK, November 21: The Information & Public Relations (IPR) department today formally presented the positive journalism grants instituted by the State government to five journalists during a function held at Gangtok.

            A shawal, framed certificate and cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each was presented by Social Welfare Chairman BB Gooroong to Sagar Chettri, Prabin Khaling, Hangma Subba and Nimsang Dolma. The final awardee, Hari Bhakta Adikhari could not make to the function as he was out of Gangtok.

            The names of these awardees had been announced during the National Press Day celebrations on November 16 organized by Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) and today the IPR department organized the award presentation function which was attended by Gooroong as the chief guest and senior journalist Santosh Nirash as the guest of honour.
