GANGTOK, NOVEMBER 23: The Sai Temple of Balwakhani reverberated with slogans of Jai Sai Ram on the occasion of the 86th birth Anniversary of Sri Satya Sai Baba today.

          The celebrations were held amidst great pomp and gaiety with number of activities under the banner of Sikkim Sri Sathya Sai Organization.

          As expected, hundreds of devotees thronged at the temple to witness their spiritual leader’s birthday.

          A rally was taken out morning from Deorali to Balwakhani participated by the devotees.

Positive journalism grants to 5 reporters

Gooroong urges IPR dept to inspect old files containing media demands

GANGTOK, November 21: The Information & Public Relations (IPR) department today formally presented the positive journalism grants instituted by the State government to five journalists during a function held at Gangtok.

            A shawal, framed certificate and cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each was presented by Social Welfare Chairman BB Gooroong to Sagar Chettri, Prabin Khaling, Hangma Subba and Nimsang Dolma. The final awardee, Hari Bhakta Adikhari could not make to the function as he was out of Gangtok.

            The names of these awardees had been announced during the National Press Day celebrations on November 16 organized by Press Club of Sikkim (PCS) and today the IPR department organized the award presentation function which was attended by Gooroong as the chief guest and senior journalist Santosh Nirash as the guest of honour. Gangtok celebrates spirit of sacrifice on Eid

 Gangtok, Nov 7: Muslims in Gangtok celebrated Eid-ul-Zuha Monday with gaiety and the spirit of sacrifice. Around ten to twenty goats and sheep were sacrificed in the city on the occasion.

The community offered prayers in the morning at various mosques in Muslim pockets across the city and adjoining east district and then got down to sacrificing goats and sheep.

The meat will then be used to prepare a variety of dishes. 

"Muslim households generally prepare a variety of sumptuous dishes like sheer korma, payas and mutton biryani. Unlike Eid-ul-Fitr which is celebrated at the end of Ramzan, Bakr-Eid is not just sweet dishes”.

According to tradition, after cutting a goat or a sheep, every Muslim divides the meat into three parts. One part goes to the poor, the second to relatives and the third remains with the family. This is done to show the spirit of remembering the poor and also to include relatives in the celebration.

India has over 160 million Muslims, the third largest population of Muslims in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan.

  

North East Ke super: Remanti and Robin

GANGTOK, NOVEMBER 2: To appeal for more sms votes the newly formed “Remanti Robin Fans club” on November 4 is organizing a cultural show performed by Remanti and Robin at MG Marg.

North East ke Super Star will be giving their live performance during the program. The program shall start from 6 pm.

The club has also set up a voting booth for both Remanti Rai and Robin Mukhia from Sikkim who has entered the final of the TV reality show North East Ke super being telecasted at DD North East. The club is also organizing a rally on November 6 starting from Denzong cinema Hall to Zero Point from 11am.

Gangtok, November 01: Chhath Puja is celebrated here at Thakur Bari Gangtok like other parts of the nation.  The Ghat was decorated with light and other decorative items by the Bihari Community of Gangtok area. The Bihari Jagaran Manch Gangtok informed that we are observing this Chhath puja by keeping fasting since four days back which will be concluded tomorrow morning. This year we did not celebrate Chhath Puja in a grand way due to the recent earthquake. He gave good wishes on the occasion of Chhath Puja to the residents of Gangtok as well as peoples of the state. He also informed that we will be praying for the victims of the recent 9/18 Earthquakes in state of Sikkim.
